Treatment Philosophy

"When a patient makes his or her way to our clinic, it is clear they are nearing the end of healthy coping abilities. It is my responsibility to help guide these patients in a positive and healthy direction. I try to do this by listening and letting them know that this a journey, it will not be a “quick fix,” and we will have to work together. Far too many times people with chronic pain syndromes are brushed aside, given narcotics and forgotten. When they return they are viewed as problem patients and ultimately branded an “issue” and abandoned. My goal is to utilize early intervention to avoid these common pitfalls and, above all, demonstrate a long-term commitment to their healing.

"My patients can expect an individualized approach to their specific problems. Most pain ailments are multifaceted and demand from the provider a committed and unique approach.

Anxiety is often a contributing factor to pain. This anxiety comes from knowing 'I have pain, but why?' By helping them identify the 'why' through education, we are beginning to empower the patient to regain control of their lives.

"As I work with my patients, they are educated every step of the way. A contributing factor to pain is often anxiety. This anxiety comes from knowing “I have pain, but why?" By helping them identify the "why" through education, we are beginning to empower the patient to regain control of their lives.

"This is essentially what pain management is - not curing, but allowing the individual to become empowered and confident to regain control of their lives."

Special Interests:

"There is no cookie-cutter solution to pain and its life-consuming effects. Each patient is unique and each problem is uniquely difficult to identify. I find satisfaction in connecting with a patient in a time of great need and identifying the true reason/reasons for their discomfort.

"Once a clear diagnosis is identified, I enjoy working with the various pain modalities at my disposal, such as diagnostic/therapeutic spinal nerve root block, facet/zygapophysial joint injections, radiofrequency denervation of painful zygapophysial joints, sacroiliac joint injections for SI joint syndrome, discograghy, and spinal cord stimulators as well as vertebroplasty."

Professional Journey

"I started out as an emergency room technician where I was exposed to many different specialties within the medical community. At the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD, I worked as an RN in the Neuro/Multi-Trauma Intensive care unit for three years, and then the Organ Procurement/Transplant Coordinator which covered the state of Maryland. Along with my clinical responsibilities, I was also the organ donation educator for the state of Maryland.

"My next position at the Cowley Center was in the Trauma Resuscitation Unit. Our four- to six-person team worked with severe trauma patients to stabilize and move them to the operating room or ICU.

"After graduation from the Anesthesia School, Medical College of Virginia, I worked in a busy inner-city operating room with complex cases such as open heart, neuro, and pediatric. I moved to NH to do independent rural anesthesia care.

"I have always been interested in chronic pain management. I am very happy and motivated to now focus my time on patients suffering with chronic pain in my community."

"When not treating patients, I enjoy... spending time with my family. We have fun doing just about anything outdoors: fly fishing, hiking, running, skiing — you name it, we’ll do it and have fun. My kids are young and watching them see and experience the world around them is truly awesome."
