Purpose/Goal:  To impact the delivery of effective pain management by exploring and exchanging practical and current  information relative to managing narcotic analgesics.

Objectives:  At the conclusion of the session, the participant will be able to:

  • Discuss indications and advantages/disadvantages of narcotic analgesic use in chronic pain.
  • Discuss management of narcotic analgesics in chronic pain including medical management, dosing adjustments/limits, contracts and monitoring, patient compliance concerns, and regulatory issues.
  • Discuss when and why to refer to a pain management specialist.
