The major joints in our bodies are susceptible to the development of arthritis. Osteoarthritis of the joint is the most common cause of joint pain. Injections of steroids and hyaluronate can be an extremely effective treatment in these cases.

  • Sacroiliac joint injection (aka sacral facet injection) - The two sacroiliac (SI) joints are located on either side of the tail bone. Inflammation of these joints can cause lower back, buttocks and upper leg pain.

  • Facet injection (aka medial branch nerve block) is an injection into or around the facet joints located on the back and side of your spine.  These joints are found in pairs at each vertebra.  They are major contributors to weight bearing and flexibility.  The different facet injections include:
    • cervical facet injections - useful for many patients who suffer with neck, head, shoulder and/or arm pain.  This is especially beneficial to patients who have a whiplash injury or those with enlargement of the joints due to arthritis.
    • thoracic facet injections - targets the mid spine. These injections are useful for patient that suffer from shoulder, upper back, ribs, and chest pain.
    • lumbar facet injections - useful for lower back pain.  This type of injection is beneficial to those suffering with back, buttock, groin and/or leg pain and who have arthritis joints on radiologic studies.
