Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) have anti-inflammatory
and analgesic (pain reducing) effects. The term "non-steroidal" is
used to differentiate these drugs from steroids, which have similar
anti-inflammatory properties. The more
common drugs in this group are aspirin, ibuprofen, and naproxen. As a
group these drugs have a tendency to cause irritation of the upper GI
tract, sometimes leading to ulcers Acetaminophen (Tylenol) - are also drugs with
analgesic (pain reducing) effects without the anti-inflammatory
properties. At doses greater then 4g/day, acetaminophen can have
adverse liver effects.
