![]() Wesley R. Strevel, PA-C As a full time chronic pain clinician, I am always seeking treatments for my patients that are optimally non-narcotic, non-invasive, and free of side effects. Intra-abdominal muscle compression deviceI have come across a fairly easy to use, innovative device for the control of chronic low back pain. The device wraps around the body in the abdominal region, providing intra-abdominal muscle compression, designed to lift and suspend the abdominal weight. This brings about three benefits: decreased pressure on lumbar discs, restoration of the normal lumbar curve and extra support for weakened spinal and abdominal muscles. Unlike a conventional brace that rides up and down the torso, this new device remains in place by causing the abdominal weight to rest above and press down on the anterior panel.
I now have several patients using this device and the overall response has been very positive. To obtain the best outcome, increase patient activity and maintain more correct posture, each patient should be accurately fitted for the device during an office visit. I arrange to have the product representative meet with the patient on site. In addition to a proper fit, he instructs the patient on its use. I will also spend time with the patient to ensure clear understanding of the protocol and to add encouragement. The effectiveness of this product may be increased when used in combination with physical therapy, which is easily arranged here at the PainCare center.
It should be noted that this device and all subsequent physical therapy is covered by most insurances, including Medicare. The representative will assist the patient with insurance coverage questions. |
