Mark: 17 years Migraines (from trial to 2 years post implant)

In addition to treating headaches with only a Tylenol or two, Mark experienced a couple of bonus side effects after his implantation procedure. He has ended an 11-year run of blood pressure medicine, and his eyesight has improved despite maculodegeneration and glaucoma.  Two years following implantation of occipital neuromodulation, Mark is still quite happy with the results.

Dr. Greenspan: How are you doing? Still got great pain relief?

Mark: Wonderful. One or two minor headaches, nothing that a Tylenol can't take care of. Compared to what I used to have? It's a lot better. Tremendously better.

Dr. Greenspan: You mentioned your blood pressure is better now?

Mark: We don't really know why. I don't know if it's because I'm off all the meds, or the implant is doing something off the side. I was taking blood pressure meds for almost 11 years. Went to the doctor, he did a blood pressure check. He took me off the meds and after two weeks it was lower than it had been in years.

Dr. Greenspan: Maybe the stress from having all the pain was increasing your blood pressure. You mention your vision has also improved?

Mark: The eye diseases I have (maculodegeneration and glaucoma) -- I've never been able to read the serial number on a dollar bill, unless I hold it close. About a month ago, I happen to look down at one in my hand, and I couldn't believe I could read the number. Now I can lift up my glasses and look to see the serial number on a bill. My eye doctor is dumbfounded.

Dr. Greenspan: I've seen this with other patients where the device seems to improve their vision also. Has to do with processing visual information.

Dr. Greenspan: So, thumbs up then.

Mark: Definitely! All the way.
