| Tuttle Family: Fibromyalgia, trigeminal neuralgia, migraines, post stroke pain (post trial) |
|
Although the Tuttles each have a different pain experience, they are unanimous in their advice to anyone contemplating a trial of occipital neuromodulation. "Do it," they say. They'd recommend it to anybody. They all noticed a significant reduction in pain and increased mobility and function during their trial period. Dr. Greenspan: We are with the Tuttle family. All three are recipients of occipital neuromodulation. Dr. Greenspan: Tell me about the kind of pain were you having before the procedure? Tuttle #1: Since 1967, I've had bad neck pain from a neck injury, I'm spasmodic torticollis,... and there was none after the trial kicked in. That night everything was good! And I haven't had any neuropathy pain in my legs or feet while I was on it. Unfortunately, that's come back after the trial was finished. The tinnitus was much better than I've had since the '60s. It went away 75%. Tuttle #2: I have fibromyalgia, I injured my neck in 1982 and have had severe muscle spasms and paresthesias, pinched nerve pain going down both my left arm and leg. I could never stand up and walk for more than a few minutes without having horrendous pain in my leg, arm and left hip. After a week [into the trial] I was out in the kitchen, we were expecting a big storm, and after about 3 1/2 hours on my feet I realized I wasn't hurting. No pain in my back, arm, leg, shoulder, neck, there was just no pain. Since '82, that has never happened. It was like a miracle. He came home and said "how can you do that?" He was just astounded. Also, I've had migraines for as long as I can remember, mainly with my periods. I take medications, but usually repeatedly, and sometimes won't work until I take a bout of steroids. This month I had two migraines, I took the medications each time once and it went away immediately. As soon as I recognized the aura, it went away. It was fantastic. Tuttle #1: She has 12 doses a month of migraine med, so that's a dramatic decrease. Tuttle #2: I usually run out and have to ask for more. Dr. Greenspan: [to #3] And you did very well, too, right? Tuttle #3: Yes, I did. Reduced pain, more energy, slept better... better mood, move around better...
Dr. Greenspan: Are you glad you did this? Tuttle #3: Very much so. I'd recommend it to anybody.
Dr. Greenspan: Has the trial been difficult for anybody? Tuttle #1: No, only when it stops!
Dr. Greenspan: What would you say to somebody sitting on the fence who is not sure they are ready for something like this? All Tuttles: "Do it, absolutely."
