| Maggie: Headaches, migraines, leg pain (post trial) |
|
Maggie's pain affected every part of her life. She couldn't take care of her seven children and couldn't work. Her husband worked two jobs and took care of all the children. A successful trial procedure of occipital neuromodulation gave her back to her family. Dr. Greenspan: When did your pain begin? and any reason for your pain? Maggie: A year and a half ago. No, woke up one morning and I was in pain and was in pain for a year and a half after that. Dr. Greenspan: So your pain was everyday? Maggie: It never went away. Dr. Greenspan: Any other problems besides the pain, like sensitivity to anything? Maggie: Sensitivity to light, noise, touch. Dr. Greenspan: What affect did the pain have on your life? Maggie: It affected every part of my life. I couldn't take care of my children, I couldn't work. My husband worked two jobs, took care of all the children. I felt useless. Dr. Greenspan: What kind of work did you do? Maggie: Inventory control for a [...] brokerage. Dr. Greenspan: And how old are your children? Maggie: From 12-20. I have 7 children. Dr. Greenspan: When I first suggested the trial procedure, were you skeptical? Maggie: I tried so many things that I didn't want to get my hopes up. Dr. Greenspan: What things have you tried before? Maggie: Different medications, massage, ... physical therapy, craniosacral therapy... nothing worked. Dr. Greenspan: How did the procedure itself go? Maggie: Good. It wasn't as painful as I thought. I get really nervous when it comes to needles. It wasn't bad at all. Dr. Greenspan: How long was it before you started noticing a change? Maggie: I got up to go to the bathroom in the middle of the night, and when I got back to bed fell right back to sleep. That hadn't happened in a year and a half. I slept all night. Dr. Greenspan: For the rest of the month-long trial you slept every night? Maggie: Oh yes. My usual routine was to keep my sunglasses on, my curtains were always closed. I got up the first morning and I was fine. I had no pain, no sensitivity. When the kids got home from school, my daughter said, "Mummy, what are you doing up?" Another commented, "Mom's feeling better - the house is clean." My husband's been a rock. They were happy to have me back. Dr. Greenspan: It's been a real transformation for you, it sounds like. Maggie: You guys saved my life... It's not just affected me, it's affected all the people I love. You gave my life back to me. Dr. Greenspan: You had pain in your legs originally. How did that pain respond? It vanished the first night as well? Maggie: Yep! It is amazing. I can't thank you enough. Dr. Greenspan: What would you tell those who say it's a placebo response? Maggie: I had put my hopes in things that people guaranteed and didn't worked. How do you explaing that? Dr. Greenspan: What would you tell those who are sitting on the fence about a trial procedure? Maggie: There's no risk. If it works, it works. If it doesn't, it doesn't. Give it a try. It gave me back to my family. And there's no greater gift than that.
